Originally Rompers were made for infants as a play garment. It has evolved to a one-piece garment with short sleeves or strapless with short-like bottoms that may or may not be bloomer-like. They can have a cinched or belted waist and are usually loose fitting for play and mobility.
Rompers for women have also become very popular and can be dressy or casual. They entered the market in the 1970s as a fashion for women, and were usually casual and terrycloth in a tube top style. They were common in the 1980s in a wider variety of materials.
Since 2006 rompers have enjoyed a comeback as a fashion staple during the summer specifically and worn to all the festivals during the season.
